For the past few years, rumors have been circulating that Benedict Cumberbatch would be starring as the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Sorcerer Supreme in ‘Doctor Strange’. There were even reports that he was in final negotiations in October when people like Jon Hamm, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Jared Leto, and Ethan Hawke were in the mix. Last week, the rumors were finally confirmed when Marvel Studios officially announced the ‘Sherlock’ star as their Dr. Stephen Strange for director Scott Derrickson. Since the announcement was made, the actor has maintained radio silence about his participation in the upcoming Phase Three film. However, the silence has been recently broken on a recent red carpet.

While appearing at the British Independent Film Awards, Cumberbatch spoke with HeyUGuys briefly about his feelings on starring in ‘Doctor Strange’. As he points out, he’s at the beginning of his journey to master the Eye of Agamotto, so there isn’t much to be said yet. However, these are still his first words on the topic, so that’s something. He also goes into how he keeps his feet on the ground after taking part in so many high profile projects such as ‘Star Trek Into Darkness’, ‘The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug,’ and more. To hear what the actor has to say, check out the video below:

In addition to not having much to say at this stage in the game, the British actor also can’t say much. Marvel is infamously secretive, so we’re not likely to find anything out without some pomp and circumstance. Although that definitely won’t stop True Believers all over the world from voicing their opinions.
