Previously we hard heard that Ridley Scott wouldn’t be directing ‘Blade Runner 2‘ though now it seems as if he may have had a change of heart. Following up his 1982 classic with a new take on it may have some people worried with how he followed up his world of ‘Aliens’ with ‘Prometheus,’ but this sounds like a completely different kind of beast.
In a recent interview while promoting ‘Exodus: Gods and Kings,’ the conversation steered towards ‘Blade Runner 2.’ As the movie is going to be a sequel to what he considers to be his “most personal” film and with the script being “very, very good,’ Scott’s time in the director’s chair may not yet be done.
Scott had the following to say for those of us who wouldn’t mind seeing him take the helm this Cyberpunk classic:
“I don’t know about [not directing ‘Blade Runner 2’] yet.”
He followed it up by saying he’s not even sure who would direct it because “I wouldn’t know [what sort of director we’d want]. It’s a hard one to track because it’s a very personal piece of my work.”
You can watch the interview below:
Let’s be honest, I’m sure that Scott is not only excited to return to the movie but also that Harrison Ford will be back as well to once again reprise a classic science fiction role. Previously on the film’s plot he said that it has “a pretty strong three-act storyline, and it all makes sense in terms of how it relates to the first one. Harrison is very much part of this one, but really it’s about finding him; he comes in in the third act.”
While we don’t know if ‘The Martian‘ will keep him too busy to make the ‘Blade Runner’ sequel quite yet, I’m sure the studio is figuring it out.
Are you looking forward to seeing Scott return to directing this cyberpunk classic or would you prefer another director get a shot at it?
