The Marvel Cinematic Universe will expand a little bit more this year thanks to the collaboration between Marvel Studios and Netflix when ‘Daredevil’ starring Charlie Cox hits the streaming service sometimes soon. But even though we haven’t been introduced to the first of the four street-level heroes just yet, the team behind ‘Jessica Jones’ is already gearing up for their time to shine. About two weeks ago, a shortlist of actresses emerged for the role of the titular superhero turned detective that included Krysten Ritter, Alexandra Daddario, Teresa Palmer, and Jessica De Gouw. Later, it appeared that Marin Ireland joined the mix as well, but now we might possibly know who has landed the part and should be heading to New York City shortly.
According to Deadline, Marvel has offered the role of Jessica Jones to ‘Don’t Trust The B—- In Apartment 23’ star Krysten Ritter. Their sources say that it came down to her and Teresa Palmer, but Ritter appeared to have better chemistry during the reading with Mike Colter of ‘The Following’, who appears to have beaten out Lance Gross and Cleo Anthony for the mighty Avenger that will receive his own Netflix drama down the line as well.
Because she comes from a primarily comedic background, Ritter is a very interesting choice for Jessica Jones, a character that once went by the heroic alias of Jewel but hung up her cowl after suffering post-traumatic stress disorder and opened her own detective agency. However, Chris Pratt of ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ fame showed that Marvel clearly sees something in performers that we don’t, so this could end up being an inspired choice. Plus, she has appeared on the dark AMC fan favorite ‘Breaking Bad,’ so it’s not necessarily her first time tackling darker material. Naturally, things could change between now and the official announcement, but from the way things are going, these two could be our Jessica Jones and Luke Cage.
What do you think about this potential casting for ‘Jessica Jones’? Are you anxiously awaiting the official word from Marvel Studios? Or do you hope that they go in a different direction with the leads? Let us know in the comments below.
