Disney held an exclusive screening of a one minute trailer for ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ and while security was tight enough to prevent any pirating of the footage, rumors are trickling down the pike of what to expect.  Brief glimpses are given of many of the major characters and there is a shot of the Millennium Falcon flying right at the audience.  But the biggest news seems to be a brief glimpse of the new villain!

Though the villain is only shown briefly, those that witnessed the screening have described him (?) as resembling a cross between the crimson-clad Emperor’s Royal Guards from the first trilogy (seen above) and Darth Revan from the ‘Knights of the Old Republic’ PC game (shown below).

As far as we know, ‘Knights of the Old Republic’ isn’t considered canon as far as the film series is concerned, just as it was recently decreed that the ‘Expanded Universe’ novels weren’t canon.  But J.J. Abrams and company are most likely free to cherry pick elements from various media to incorporate into their movie relaunch.

When will the trailer be available for the US market?  Well, the ‘Peanuts’ movie trailer has already debuted and it won’t hit theaters until next Christmas.  It’s possible that the ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ trailer could unspool within the next few weeks.  It’s rumored that the trailer could be attached to ‘The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies.’ However, Disney’s biggest offering this holiday season is ‘Into The Woods,’ the film adaptation of the stage musical, which arrives on Christmas Day.  Could the ‘Star Wars’ trailer precede this fantasy film?  I’d expect some rumblings to arrive before the official debut.

What do you think?  Would you like to see elements from outside media like ‘Knights of the Old Republic’ or the ‘Expanded Universe’ incorporated into the main ‘Star Wars’ film continuity?

Only one year to go to see what we can really expect, when ‘The Force Awakens’ hits theaters on December 18th, 2015.
