Despite ‘The Amazing Spider-Man 2’ underperforming at the box office and underwhelming fans, Sony Pictures is still attempting to replicate Marvel Studios’ success by expanding their cinematic Spider-Verse with films like ‘The Sinister Six’ and ‘Venom’. There’s even talk of a team up film featuring some of Spidey’s most fearsome femme fatales. But one lady in particular is the subject of the latest rumors for ‘The Amazing Spider-Man 3,’ regardless of what happened in the last two chapters of the franchise.
According to Christian Today, Emma Stone will allegedly reprise her role as Gwen Stacy in the third ‘Amazing Spider-Man’ film, even though her character fell to her death during her last appearance on the silver screen starring opposite Andrew Garfield’s Peter Parker. But how exactly can that be? The report says that the answer is clones.
The site claims that ‘The Amazing Spider-Man 3’ will be based on the original ‘Clone Saga’ from 1973 by Gerry Conway and will introduce Professor Miles Warren, a teacher from Empire State University that specializes in cloning and was obsessed with Gwen Stacy. When Warren learned of her death, he creates a clone to bring her back to life and pursues Spider-Man under the mantle of the Jackal because he blames the hero for his love’s death.
However, as accurate as the site is in recounting source material, it doesn’t cite any credible sources and fills out the rest of the article by rehashing previous rumors such as Miles Morales appearing in the movies and Spider-Man finally crossing over into the Marvel Cinematic Universe for ‘Captain America: Civil War.’ Though it would be cool to see the ‘Clone Saga’ adapted into a live action film, this should all be treated purely as speculation at this point.
Do you think that there’s any truth to this rumor for ‘The Amazing Spider-Man 3’? Would you want to see Emma Stone reprise the role of Gwen Stacy once again, even if she’s only a clone? Let us know in the comments below.
