We all know that ‘Dracula Untold‘ was the unofficial first film in the new Universal Monsters Cinematic Universe and that ‘The Mummy‘ is set to shamble into theaters on June 24th, 2016 but now Universal Pictures has reserved another release date. On Friday, April 21st 2017 they will be releasing another Universal Monsters movie into their cinematic universe. But which film will be following ‘The Mummy’ to the big screen?

Well at this time there is no word if we’re going to be seeing a sequel to one of the first films, a release to the rumored Van Helsing project, or an introduction to any of the other creatures such as Frankenstein’s Monster, Wolf Man, or any of the other Universal Monsters that might be making their way to the big screen.

At this time there is no information on the film aside from the release date and a placeholder title of ‘The Untitled Universal Monster Franchise Film.’ I would assume we’d see another of the big monsters tackled next and that it would be too early for a ‘Dracula’ or ‘Mummy’ sequel. However, if Van Helsing is the movie that is chosen it could easily drop Easter Eggs of either of these characters as well as more of the monsters to come. Either way, I’m sure there will be an increase in tie-ins between the films going forward as more of these creatures are reintroduced in the new world. Also, unlike some shared universes out there, it wouldn’t surprise me if we ended up getting some after credit scenes to enjoy.

Which of the Universal Monsters would you like to see show up on the big screen after ‘The Mummy’? Do you like the idea of bringing together a shared universe of monsters or do you prefer stand alone films? Share your thoughts below!
