With superhero team movies coming into fashion in recent years with ‘X-Men: Days of Future Past’, ‘The Avengers: Age of Ultron’, ‘The Fantastic Four’, and ‘Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice’, Sony is getting in on the action with a team of their own. Back in December of 2013, they announced that they would be expanding their Spider-Man cinematic universe by developing films starring classic villains Venom and the Sinister Six. Since then, the studio announced a number of big name writers to the projects, including ‘Cabin In The Woods’ director Drew Goddard, who stepped away from showrunning Marvel’s ‘Daredevil’ on Netflix in favor of focusing on Spidey’s superior foes. Now, we know exactly when to expect the web-slinger’s sinful sextuplet to wreak havoc on the silver screen.

‘The Sinister Six’ has been set to be released on November 11, 2016. Additionally, the studio also moved ‘The Amazing Spider-Man 3’ to 2018. Previously, the third and fourth installments of the marvelous wall-crawler’s movie franchise were scheduled for June 10, 2016 and May 4, 2018 respectively. There’s no word as to when we’ll be seeing ‘The Amazing Spider-Man 4’ yet, but we do know that ‘Venom’ should come out some time before it thanks to producer Matthew Tolmach. Regarding this shuffling of dates, which also sees Sony’s adaptation of the popular video game ‘Uncharted’ move into the June 10th slot, president of Sony Pictures Entertainment Motion Picture Group Doug Belgrad had this to say:

“With ‘Sinister Six’ in the hands of writer-director Drew Goddard, we feel extremely confident placing the film on a prime date in 2016.”

With a release date in sight, the only thing left to wonder is what the roster of villains will look like. During the credits of ‘The Amazing Spider-Man 2’, many believed that the lineup was teased with a series of images. This came after the news that the classic team consisting of Doctor Octopus, Electro, Vulture, Mysterio, Sandman, and Kraven the Hunter won’t be appearing in the film. While it’s highly probable that we’ll see Dane DeHaan’s Green Goblin, everyone else’s involvement is still up in the air, even enemies we’ve seen on the big screen already like Rhino, Electro, and the Lizard.

What do you think about ‘The Sinister Six’ being the next film we see from Sony’s Spider-Man franchise? Are you excited to see who ends up being on the team under the direction of Drew Goddard? Sound off in the comments below.
