First Weather Wizard and Professor Zoom, then Captain Cold.  Not to mention Gorilla Grodd Easter Egged and Captain Boomerang rumored.  Now another of The Flash’s Rogues is slated to appear on the breakout hit show, The Pied Piper.

In the comics, The Pied Piper is Hartley Rathaway, who was born deaf, but thanks to surgery became able to hear and eventually created a flute that had hypnotic abilities.  The character was based on the classic story, ‘The Pied Piper of Hamelin’ who used a flute to lure rats out of a German village and the rat concept has been applied to the comic character at times.

But perhaps the most notable trait about the character is that he was one of the few openly gay characters in comics during the 90s.  He even reformed and became an ally of The Flash (who was Wally West at the time).  He was killed off in the unfortunate miniseries ‘Countdown’ but is alive and well in the New 52.

Andy Mientus will be playing the musical villain on ‘The Flash’ which has been one of the biggest “right off the bat” successes of the new fall season, not only scoring huge ratings, but getting great reviews and word of mouth.

On the show, Rathaway will not be born deaf, but will have lost his hearing as a result of the Particle Accelerator malfunction which gave Barry Allen his super speed powers.

Rathaway will be a former protegee of Harrison Wells, but after the accident was seemingly cast aside.  He will have it in for The Flash, since Wells has taken him under his wing.

Mientus is actually slated for a two episode stint in the role, in episodes 11 and 12.  Interestingly enough, episode 12 features the introduction of Victor Garber as Professor Martin Stein and Robbie Amell as Ronnie Raymond, the two humans that combine to become the atomic hero Firestorm… and whose arch enemy is Killer Frost a.k.a. Caitlin Snow one of the main characters on ‘The Flash’.  Hmmmm….

What do you think?  Will The Pied Piper translate to live action?
