This is exciting news for hopeful fans of Marvel’s upcoming ‘Daredevil‘ on Netflix as Scott Glenn (‘Silence of the Lambs’,’The Leftovers‘) has been tapped to play Stick!

According to Jeph Loeb, Marvel’s Head of Television, “Stick is one of the most important figures in Matt Murdock’s life and Scott Glenn embodies all the qualities of someone so integral to this hero’s journey. There are few actors who could bring such the authenticity, gravitas and charisma to such a key role in Matt’s journey to become the super hero we call Daredevil.”

In the comic series, Stick is the sensei who ended up initially training Matt Murdock in the ways of martial arts from a child. Stick runs an order of martial arts known as The Chaste and at one point removed Elektra Natchios from his order which could at some point be a lead in for Elektra in the series down the line. Another big point for expanding the groups of villains in the Marvel Universe here is that the Chaste has a long history with the ninja clan known as The Hand which have played a major part in Daredevil’s back story and related characters. It’s unclear who has the rights to The Hand but if they are in Marvel’s court it could lead to all kinds of ninja fun in the future.

We know that the show will be darker than Marvel’s ‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’ so an inclusion of this group of ninjas who can bring the dead back to life might be a fitting addition to the world that we’re being given.

It will be interesting to see if they mainly have him around in flashbacks while training the younger Matt Murdock or if he will still be a guiding force.
