Each trailer for ‘Constantine‘ has been giving us more details and the latest trailer below has some new footage from the show. Word from SDCC gave us both details and a trailer which showed us that the series would be taking a change in direction from the pilot, but one has to ask if it was enough of a change from the lackluster early reviews that it has been receiving? Still a bit early to tell but the new footage gives some hope at the very least.

While the show’s star Matt Ryan promises that ‘Constantine’ will be accurate to the comics, we already know that the main character won’t be smoking. Fans of the series will attest to this being pretty central to who Constantine is in his introduction and also tells a lot about his personality. Not only that, but the shift of direction has removed Lucy Griffiths‘ character Liv from the show and will instead be replacing her with Angelica Celaya who will be portraying Zed.

Lets take a look at the most recent trailer below.

‘Constantine’ follows enigmatic and irreverent Liverpool con-man-turned-occult-detective John Constantine, who is reluctantly thrust into the role of defending our world against dark forces from beyond.

While the show does seem as if it could have potential, I do believe that the rocky start with such a major shift from the pilot to the second episode may turn some viewers off. Also, though the producers have said that the show will not feature a “guest appearance of the week” kind of a format, one has to wonder if there are any plans to follow in the footsteps of ‘Arrow’ to slowly introduce some of the other darker aspects of the DC Universe. It is an easy jumping point to evolve the series into a ‘Justice League Dark’ styled format. While that doesn’t sound to be the current plan, the success of ‘Arrow’ may have the network dictating some terms if things don’t go too smoothly when the series premieres. On a side note, I’m sure the studios would love for that to happen so they are competing with themselves if del Toro’s take on ‘Justice League Dark’ as a movie ever actually happens.

What do you think of the premise for the series? Do you think ‘Constantine’ has room to grow where the film starring Keanu Reeves fell short?
