With the success of ‘The Walking Dead,’ every station seems to be adding a zombie themed show to their lineup. ‘Z Nation,’ however, is deviating slightly from the serious tone that Kirkman’s masterpiece has given us. What could the show possibly be adding to the mix that may work? Humor.

While a somewhat funnier take on zombies may push the show into a new batch of fans, I still think this will be closer to a serious show than say a ‘Zombieland’ themed one. While it could be a draw, we also have to worry about the humor that we may see here as the show is being brought to us by The Asylum, the studio known for such classics as ‘Sharknado‘ and the slew of horrible zombie movies that Syfy has shown us over the past few years.

While most of their movies haven’t really left you wanting more, the trailer for ‘Z Nation‘ actually does make the show look like it could be entertaining:

In Z Nation, three years have passed since the zombie virus has gutted the country, and a team of everyday heroes must transport the only known survivor of the plague from New York to California, where the last functioning viral lab waits for his blood. Although the antibodies he carries are the world’s last, best hope for a vaccine, he hides a dark secret that threatens them all. With humankind’s survival at stake, the ragtag band embarks on a journey of survival across three thousand miles of rusted-out post-apocalyptic America.

Z Nation is a dynamic ensemble drama that will plunge viewers into a fully-imagined post-zombie America and take them on an adventure with a diverse group of richly-drawn characters. As the reluctant heroes learn to work as a team and battle ever-more-menacing zombies, their flaws, idiosyncrasies, and moral dilemmas will ultimately become the heart of the show.

We’ll see if the show actually is fun and takes a place in our hearts or makes us cringe as their movies movies such as ‘Rise of the Zombies’ and ‘Zombie Apocalypse’ have in the past. The trailer isn’t long enough to tell so I suspect we won’t know until the first episode premieres.
