After ‘The Amazing Spider-Man 2’ didn’t quite draw in the box office numbers that people were expecting, there have been some major shakeups with the iconic Marvel superhero’s Sony Pictures movie franchise. With ‘Star Trek 3’ in his sights, Roberto Orci is no longer involved in Spidey’s next big screen appearance. Rumors have been flying about star Andrew Garfield leaving the role in the near future. And then, this week we learned that third chapter in rebooted film series has been pushed to 2018 thanks to ‘The Sinister Six’ being fast-tracked to 2016. But despite all these changes, it doesn’t look like there will be a switch up in the director’s chair when it comes time for ‘The Amazing Spider-Man 3’ to shoot.

The Hollywood Reporter posted a very interesting article about Sony’s recent decision to shuffle the deck on Spider-Man. It addresses many concerns heard since the decision was made such as a possible reboot, Garfield’s age when the sequel goes into production, and even the rights to the character going back to Marvel Studios (which I highly doubt will happen before Sony cranks out the spinoffs and sequels that they already announced). But buried deep in the piece is a bit of information concerning Marc Webb and the studio’s intentions with pushing back the sequel:

“Privately, Sony admits it is seeking to freshen the brand but has no major overhaul plans, with Webb expected to return to complete the trilogy (as Sam Raimi did with the first three films).”

Honestly, it’s a good thing that the studio is doing something to freshen up the Spider-Man films. It was barely five years after ‘Spider-Man 3’ that we got a reboot of the whole series, so it’s possible that we have been getting a bit of an overload. Maybe by introducing a unique team up film that we haven’t seen before prior to bringing back the web-slinger again will cleanse the audience’s pallet. After that little break, we should be ready for Webb to wrap up his story in ‘The Amazing Spider-Man 4’ before passing it along to someone else for the fourth installment.

What do you think about Sony’s approach to freshen up the ‘Amazing Spider-Man’ franchise? Are you glad to hear that Marc Webb is still expected to return for ‘The Amazing Spider-Man 4’ in 2018? Let us know in the comments.
