‘The Amazing Spider-Man 2’ is swinging through theaters right now and has fans thoroughly divided on whether it was good or not. But regardless of your thoughts on the latest installment of the web-slinging series, the Sony Spidey machine is trudging away with more films and spinoffs in the future. However, it was rumored that Andrew Garfield may not return for ‘The Amazing Spider-Man 4’, which is already scheduled for May 4, 2018. Marc Webb already expressed his intentions to vacate the director’s chair after the third film, so maybe the young star was looking to follow suit. But recent rumors indicate that Garfield had a change of heart and signed a new deal.

According to sources, the current Spider-Man has been offered a multi-million dollar deal to stay on as the wall-crawling Marvel hero up until 2020. Apparently, the actor has agreed to a new contract and teases another appearance for Peter Parker in 2015 even though ‘The Amazing Spider-Man 3’ isn’t coming out until June 10, 2016:

“Andrew is already contracted to make two more films for release in 2015 and 2016. We are looking to tie him to the role for as many as a further four pictures given the huge success the franchise is enjoying. The part is pretty much his for as long as he chooses.”

Before anyone jumps to conclusions, it is highly unlikely that we’ll see Spider-Man in ‘The Avengers: Age of Ultron’ in 2015. Chances are that ‘Sinister Six’ or ‘Venom’ could be ready by then and we’ll see a Spidey cameo before he comes back in his own film the following year. Regardless, this comes as very interesting news as the actor has even been pitching ideas to replace him and his character with Miles Morales, the Spider-Man of the Ultimates Universe created by Brian Michael Bendis. Even though producers denied claims that the multi-cultural superhero is coming along down the line, it was nice that there was some hope of getting the fan favorite character onscreen sooner rather than later.
