You have no idea how happy I am to be able to report to you that the next ‘Predator‘ film that Fox is putting together is going to be a sequel and not a reboot. Shane Black, who will be directing the film, saw the rumors of his film filling up the internet and, thankfully, quickly put to bed the rumor that it was a reboot. I’m sure anyone else out there looking for another cinematic Predator experience is going to be joining me in a huge sigh of relief here.

When talking about his vision for the film he had the following to say while saying it wasn’t a reboot, “As far as Fred and I are concerned anyway. Why start over, when you’ve all this rich mythology yet to mine?”

Rich mythology to mine? There is a lot out there already and I’m wondering which portion in particular he means? It helps that Black doesn’t like reboots but that he can ““really get behind inventive sequels” and that in this case “the idea of expanding and exploring the existing Predator mythology, rather than hitting the restart button.” Maybe he’ll incorperate some more of the actual Predator information that hs been revealed in the comics over the years?

I mean lets be honest here, there is no need to remove any of the existing films from canon. The first film was amazing. Yes, the second film was pretty bad but it gave us the concept of the ‘Aliens vs Predators’ in film. While they’ve never been able to make the idea work properly (hint: set it in space and add space marines and you’ve got your entire problem solved) it is still an idea that we would all love to play out on screen. Even ‘Predators’ which wasn’t the best thing in the world had some great moments to enjoy. There are plenty of ways to mix in a Predator into any age of human history (including present day) and give us a viable story.

I think we have a solid writing and directing team here for the film. I’m curious though as to what all of you think.

Are you happy to hear that the next ‘Predator’ film isn’t looking to restart the universe but make it something a little more interesting? Do you have anything in particular from the films or comics that you would want to see included in the movie? Share your thoughts below!
