All aboard the reboot train as we’re getting a new take on ‘Predator’ over at Fox. The film is set to be helmed by Shane Black, the creator of the ‘Lethal Weapon’ franchise and director of ‘Iron Man 3.’ This is somewhat great news as everything that has involved the creature after the original film on the big screen has been a bit of a flop, it’ll be fun to see a new take on the series. Black is set to pen the initial treatment before Fred Dekker (‘Monster Squad’) takes over to write the script. John Davis who helped produce the original will be back on board to produce again.
In my opinion ‘Predator’ is one of the greatest science fiction action films of all time as it was able to blend aliens, big guns, and was one of Arnold Schwarzenegger’s starring roles. It is a movie from when action movies were full of actual action, one liners, and ridiculously muscled men blowing things up. The sequel was a flop of a follow up and while the 2010 installment wasn’t bad, it wasn’t great. Let’s also take a moment to pretend the wonderful idea and horribly executed ‘Aliens vs. Predator’ films don’t exist either.
I’d really like the series to go back to a more action horror theme as in the original film where you truly felt that the humans we’re following are really being hunted down.
With Black already busy with ‘The Nice Guys’ and ‘Doc Savage.’ I just hope he doesn’t get too distracted. ‘Predator’ has the ability to be a great series and one that doesn’t require space marines to work.
