Nearly one year ago, it was announced that Scarlett Johansson would be starring in her own superhero film. Unfortunately for Marvel fans, this isn’t the Black Widow movie that we’ve been waiting for, but it definitely still sounds interesting. Written and directed by Luc Besson, ScarJo stars in ‘Lucy’ as a young woman who works as a drug mule that gains superhuman abilities after accidentally absorbing a serum that she’s carrying. In a way, she’s more Captain America than Black Widow, except without the stars and stripes.
Recently, Entertainment Weekly unveiled the first look at Johansson as the titular character in a compromising position. Concerning his ass-kicking lead, the ‘La Femme Nikita’ and ‘The Fifth Element’ director said that “it’s like cooking: sugar with a bit of salt, and Lucy definitely can get salty”. Then, earlier today, the first trailer for the film dropped and it’s really cool to see the actress go from innocent victim to butt-kicking action star in mere moments. The film almost reminds me of ‘Limitless’ starring Bradley Cooper and Robert DeNiro, except with a lot more action. You can see for yourself in the video below:
However, before the actress unveils her latest superhero persona, she has quite a busy schedule ahead of her. This weekend, she returns to the Marvel Cinematic Universe to team with fellow Avenger Steve Rogers in ‘Captain America: The Winter Soldier’. Then, the extremely creepy ‘Under The Skin’ hits theaters everywhere the weekend after that. And finally, while all those things line up, she’s shooting ‘The Avengers: Age of Ultron’ while being pregnant. Though Johansson has played her fair share of strong women, she certainly is one in real life.
