After another hiatus (which is something that I have to say far too often about this show), ‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’ returns tonight with a brand new episode. While we’re set to catch up with Deathlok this evening, some other interesting characters are slated to appear on the show in the future. Recently, it was announced that Adrian Pasdar, Patton Oswalt, and Amy Acker (who will be playing the infamous cellist) are all lined up to make their Marvel Cinematic Universe debuts later this season. Now, things have just gotten darker for Agent Coulson and his team.

In an exclusive announcement on Marvel.com, Patrick Brennan of ‘The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2’ and ‘The Black Donnellys’ shared that he will be joining the cast in the show’s eighteenth and nineteenth episodes as Marcus Daniels AKA the villainous Blackout. In the comics, the character made his first appearance in ‘Nova’ #19 back in 1976, but he’ll go through a little update for his 2014 introduction to the world of Marvel Studios. Rather than having the ability to manipulate Darkforce, this new Blackout will be able to suck the energy out of anything around him. Here’s what Brennan had to say about his latest role, including some details about what Marcus Daniels is after:

“What they told me is this guy, Marcus Daniels, a.k.a. Blackout, was shrouded in darkness, his soul, everything about him was shrouded in darkness until he comes across this Cello player. And the music was the only light that came into his soul, and it gave him hope and it gave him some sense of what light was. I thought to myself, oh my god, you don’t even need to explain anything else. Because music, to me, is what gets me through most of the time. My kids, my wife, and music. That aspect of it totally intrigued me. I thought that was quite beautiful and very interesting, that aspect of the character.”

While Blackout wasn’t exactly a Loki or a Red Skull level villain in the comics, this version certainly sounds very interesting, especially when Brennan talks bout him being a sympathetic villain similar to Tony Montana in ‘Scarface’. What do you think about Marcus Daniels appearing on ‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’? Do you like that the writers are rejuvenating some lesser-known villains in order to throw them at Agent Coulson and his team? Are you worried about Audrey the cellist after hearing the details of the character? Let us know in the comments below after the first look at Brennan as Blackout from the upcoming episode titled ‘Providence’:
