Back in 2012, Angelina Jolie signed on to play arguably the most evil Disney villain ever conceived in the ‘Wicked’-esque origin story ‘Maleficent’. Later that year, we saw that the actress was perfect as the Mistress of All Evil from Walt’s 1959 adaptation of ‘Sleeping Beauty’ when the first photo from the production was released. Since then, we’ve seen a number of posters and trailers and have embraced the haunting cover of ‘Once Upon A Dream’ by Lana Del Rey that usually accompanies any videos from the film. Last week, the third trailer featuring the evil fairy’s former winged form dropped, but now another international trailer has hit the web and features some brand new footage.
Recently, Disney released a Japanese trailer for the upcoming film with a few never before seen bits and a few moments from the animated classic. You can check out the trailer below followed by the official synopsis of the story:
A beautiful, pure-hearted young woman, Maleficent has an idyllic life growing up in a peaceable forest kingdom, until one day when an invading army threatens the harmony of the land. Maleficent rises to be the land’s fiercest protector, but she ultimately suffers a ruthless betrayal—an act that begins to turn her pure heart to stone. Bent on revenge, Maleficent faces an epic battle with the invading king’s successor and, as a result, places a curse upon his newborn infant Aurora. As the child grows, Maleficent realizes that Aurora holds the key to peace in the kingdom—and perhaps to Maleficent’s true happiness as well.
