When Scarlet Johansson debuted in the Marvel Cinematic Universe as the Black Widow in ‘Iron Man 2’, she became an instant fan favorite. Since then, she shined in ‘The Avengers’, but as Phase Two continues, the character will definitely have an expanded role in Marvel’s films. In two weeks, she stands by Steve Rogers’ side as they take on a figure from his past in ‘Captain America: The Winter Soldier’. It has also been said that she’ll be a major player in ‘The Avengers: Age of Ultron’. Now, we somewhat have an idea of how that will be so.

In a brief interview with IGN for the next feature starring the Sentinel of Liberty, ScarJo talks about the red in Agent Natasha Romanoff’s ledger and how it will come into play in Joss Whedon’s follow up to his major 2012 blockbuster featuring Earth’s Mightiest Heroes:

“In ‘Avengers 2’, we definitely learn more about Widow’s back-story, and get to find out how she became the person you see. All of these characters have deep, dark pasts, and I think that the past catches up to some of us a little bit.”

If I had to guess, the “some of us” that the actress refers to might include Agent Clint Barton AKA Hawkeye and Dr. Bruce Banner AKA The Hulk. Since neither of them have really been seen in a Marvel Studios production since ‘The Avengers’ (except for Banner’s brief appearance in ‘Iron Man 3’), they should be getting more of a focus when the team reassembles in 2015. Those two have been known to get into their fair share of trouble that could potentially catch up to them as well. Also, we already know that Barton’s history is connected to Natasha’s, so it would make sense if whatever caught up with her caught up with him as well.

What do you think will catch up with the Black Widow in ‘The Avengers: Age of Ultron’? Are you glad to see the character become a bigger part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe by receiving bigger parts in each one of her appearances? Share your thoughts in the comment section.
