Back in 2011, Tom Cruise signed on for a sci-fi action movie called ‘We Are Mortals’, which is an adaptation of Hiroshi Sakurazaka’s manga, ‘All You Need is Kill’. Later, the film changed it’s name to match the source material, but it went through one final change to ‘Edge of Tomorrow’ before promotional campaigns really kicked off with the first trailer. Now, after a bit of a lull, a second trailer has finally arrived.
This upcoming Doug Liman film follows Cruise as Lt. Col. Bill Cage, a soldier who dies in his first ever battle against alien invaders, yet wakes up the next morning to fight all over again. It’s sort of a twisted sci-fi version of the classic comedy ‘Groundhog Day’, except it doesn’t sound as funny. While Warner Bros. has been promoting the movie for a few months now, we haven’t really gotten many items of substance.
Now, a brand new trailer has been released featuring a ton of new footage and trades out the ominous synth orchestrations of the first one with a bit of humor, while still maintaining the blockbuster action. You can check that out below followed by the official synopsis of the story:
Lt. Col. Bill Cage is an officer who has never seen a day of combat when he is unceremoniously demoted and then dropped into combat. Cage is killed within minutes, managing to take an alpha alien down with him. But he awakens back at the beginning of the same day and is forced to fight and die again…and again – as physical contact with the alien has thrown him into a time loop.
