Last month, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson tweeted that he’d met with Warner Brothers and was preparing to play a super hero in one of their live action movies.  Among other speculated names thrown out was Green Lantern, the John Stewart version.

Then, yesterday he posted a message on Instagram that… might confirm that to be correct:

“Known this beast since he was 15. I was on the football field playing for Miami, he was leading the Hurricanes marching band as Drum Major. He spent years of working on my WWE story lines & Rock monologues. Then years of being on every movie set with me learning the film business from top to bottom. Today, he’s one of the best and most sought after producers in Hollywood. Brilliant, relentless and one big motherf*cker! Proud of you brother & thank you for all the hard work. #ProducerHiram #TeamRock #JohnStewartCanStillWhupSupermansAss”

Though most of the message seems to be praise for an old friend, the last hashtag is what’s… er, raising eyebrows.  (Sorry, that was not intentional.)  #JohnStewartCanStillWhupSupermansAss

Hmm, why would he randomly throw out a John Stewart hashtag in a message that doesn’t seem to have anything to do with comics?

There have already been rumblings that Green Lantern could appear in ‘Batman Vs. Superman’.  Then again, it’s also been rumored that ‘Justice League’ will shoot back-to-back with ‘Batman Vs. Superman’.  Either way, it sounds as if we’re going to get a Green Lantern onscreen and soon.  And it’s not surprising that after ‘Green Lantern‘ flopped, featuring the Hal Jordan version of the character, that Warner Brothers would go in a different direction and utilize the second-best known GL.  John Stewart was the original version that was supposed to be featured in the 2007 Justice League movie that never came to be and was the one used on the ‘Justice League’ cartoon.

After the Instagram message resulted in loads of internet buzz, Johnson took to Twitter to… not quite clarify his hashtag.

So he’s playing coy, apparently.

What do you think?  Would The Rock make a good Green Lantern?  Do you think the Justice League will gather in ‘Batman Vs. Superman’ or in a separate movie?  Comment below!
