Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson tweeted that he’d been collaborating with Warner Brothers on a DC Comics movie property, but didn’t specify which.  Now rumors have emerged that he will appear in the ‘Justice League’ movie and that the movie will shoot in 2014, right after ‘Batman Vs. Superman’ (or whatever it winds up being called) wraps.  This would allow the two movies to film back-to-back and be released a year apart, the same way the ‘Hunger Games’ and ‘The Hobbit’ movies were.  Warner Brothers apparently wants to build up anticipation for its movies.  Unfortunately, I guess this plan wasn’t in effect when ‘Man of Steel’ was filmed as there is going to be a two-year gap between that film and its follow up.  But it makes sense that Warner Brothers would want to wait to see how that movie performed first.

The big question now is “Who will Johnson be playing?”  Some sites are speculating Green Lantern, a role previously attached to Denzel Washington’s name.  (This is casting I was wary of from the start.  Also, Washington was reportedly also considered for Lex Luthor.)  But the question is, which GL will he play?  He’s mixed race, so is he right for John Stewart?  Will he use his non-specific ethnicity to play another Middle Eastern character as he did in ‘The Scorpion King’ and take on the new GL Simon Baz?  Or will they alter Hal Jordan’s backstory?

Another possibility may be J’Onn J’onzz, the Martian Manhunter.  Or… and this is my theory, will he play Darkseid?  He has that hulking frame and commanding presence.  Will he play the ultimate villain of the DC heroes?

We already know that the movie will heavily feature Batman and Superman and that Wonder Woman will be featured in at least one battle sequence.  The names of Green Lantern and The Flash have also popped up in reports.  Earlier this week, ‘Lost’ star Josh Holloway’s name was thrown out as a potential cast member.  Many assumed he would play Aquaman, which is a good choice, but it’s also possible he could be playing Luthor or The Flash… I can see him in any of these three roles, but he is attached to his new show ‘Intelligence’ which could prevent him from participating in two back-to-back movies.

My head is spinning from all these rumors!  But filming is about to begin, so we will see what other news emerges as it happens.  Take everything with a grain of salt at this point.  These rumors could be b.s. and/or change at a moment’s notice.

What do you think?  Who should The Rock portray?  Should Aquaman be included? What about the Martian Manhunter?  Or what about Cyborg?  Sound off below!
