‘Divergent’ the dystopian sci-fi thriller based on Veronica Roth’s best-selling YA novel trilogy doesn’t arrive until March 21st, but Summit Entertainment doesn’t seem to want to take any chances– and presumably wants to avoid an under-performance like that of ‘The Mortal Instruments’— and has been releasing a flurry of promotional videos and images for months now.  A new full-length trailer is due this evening during ‘Jimmy Kimmell Live’, but first enjoy this quick-cut trailer that does include some never-before seen footage, like this shot of scary birds attacking Shailene Woodley as hero Tris Prior:

Four (Theo James) encouraging Tris after he discovers that she is Divergent:

And this hair-raising sequence:

Most of this footage looks new, but expect the new trailer to reuse some previously-released scenes, especially the expository parts that explain the movie’s premise for people who may not be familiar with the source material:

Beatrice “Tris” Prior lives in a futuristic Chicago, where teens select a faction to devote their lives to, but if they chose one different from the one in which they were raised, they lose all contact with their families.  Tris takes a chance and makes that tough choice, selecting Dauntless, the brave soldiers of this society.  But once she makes her choice, thanks to a  psychological test, she finds out she is Divergent, able to exhibit the traits of all factions, which places her life in danger as this is considered a threat to this highly structured government, which *surprise* has a secret, sinister agenda.
