‘Captain America: The Winter Soldier’ hasn’t even hit theaters yet, but it appears that Marvel Studios is so pleased with it already that they’ve already started taking steps toward a third film starring the Star-Spangled Avenger. And while it was a bit of a surprise that Anthony and Joe Russo were brought in to direct the second film featuring Chris Evans after mostly dabbling in comedic endeavors, it looks like they’ve done a bang up job and are being lined up to be brought back for the next installment.

According to a report from Variety, Marvel is in talks with the directing duo to return to helm ‘Captain America 3’, which hasn’t officially been greenlit yet. Although since the cast has options to appear in additional films, a third is all but guaranteed unless ‘Winter Soldier’ doesn’t perform well at the box office. However, it has been said that executives are very pleased with the movie and it has been testing very well, so I don’t see that scenario playing out.

Official negotiations with the brothers won’t begin until after the second Steve Rogers adventure hits theaters, but it’s said that the Russos are already working with Kevin Feige and the studio to outline the next steps for the Sentinel of Liberty before they bring in a screenwriter to put everything on paper.

Even though you haven’t seen what they brought to the Marvel Cinematic Universe yet, what do you think about Anthony and Joe Russo coming back for a third Captain America movie? What do you think this currently unofficial threequel would be about? Are there any favorite Cap storylines that you’d like to see adapted for the big screen? ‘Captain America: The Winter Soldier’ starring Chris Evans, Sebastian Stan, Anthony Mackie, Frank Grillo, Scarlett Johansson, Samuel L. Jackson, Cobie Smulders, and Emily VanCamp hits theaters on April 4, 2014.
