Even though 20th Century Fox released some images of The Sentinels, the mutant-hunting robots from its upcoming flick X-Men: Days of Future Past, not to mention a video clip, the exact grandeur of these towering machines didn’t quite translate. So in order to illustrate just how massive these devices are, director Bryan Singer tweeted this photo:
In an interesting nod to the comics, the creators chose to maintain the perhaps questionable purple color scheme from the comic book (to the left). It’s ever so slightly toned down, but it’s a nice nod to the source material, especially when you consider the way that the X-Men themselves are rendered in tamer costumes in the movies than in the books.
The Sentinel appears to tower in at over 20 feet tall! (Bryan Singer is 5’10” according to IMDB.)
In the comics, Bolivar Trask invents the Sentinels to hunt down and capture mutants, which eventually leads to the apocalyptic “Days of Future Past” world where most of the mutant population is dead and what remains has been imprisoned in concentration camps.
The time-bending ‘Days of Future Past’ arrives in theaters on May 23, 2014 and stars members of both X-Men franchises, the originals and “First Class,” Ian McKellan (older Magneto), Patrick Stewart (older Professor X), Halle Berry (Storm), Anna Paquin (Rogue), Ellen Page (Kitty Pryde), Shawn Ashmore (Ice Man), Daniel Cudmore (Colossus) with Michael Fassbender (younger Magneto), James McAvoy (younger Professor X), Jennifer Lawrence (Mystique), Nicholas Hoult (Beast), and Lucas Till (Havok).
