Before the filming of the movie was even complete, we saw a ton of viral marketing for ‘Godzilla’ begin to take shape. None of the early shots have given us a clear image of the beast though there was a good headshot being shown off. Now due to promo images of the new book, ‘Godzilla: With Light and Sound!’ (that’s available for pre-order), we have a new image directly from its cover!

I think we’re all thankful that the current look appears to harken back to the glory days of when Godzilla was a man in a giant rubber suit and not that abomination from 1998 by Robert Emmerich (‘Independence Day 2‘) that we all pretend doesn’t exist. I still don’t know how he was responsible for that after doing so many good films, giant disaster films included. Thankfully, Gareth Edwards (‘Monsters’) never bought into that abomination and has a clear idea of what the true fans of ‘Godzilla’ really want to see, and that’s more images like this:

With the film’s release next year and limited marketing available so far, it’s only a matter of time before we start seeing some big pushes from the company. I can’t wait to see a trailer for the film to show off not exactly how Godzilla is going to look, as we’ve seen that now, but how he’s going to look moving around. No details on the plot have been released quite yet but with a cast that apparently includes Bryan Cranston (‘Breaking Bad’), Aaron Taylor-Johnson (‘Kick-Ass 2’), Victor Rasuk (‘Jobs’), Juliette Binoche (‘Cosmopolis’), and Elizabeth Olsen (‘The Avengers: Age of Ultron‘) I’m going to wager that it takes place in America.

So tell me, are you excited about the new ‘Godzilla’? Happy that we have a more classical look for the giant monster creature feature coming up? Or are you still waiting to hear where it’s going to take place and what it’s going to be about?

The new ‘Godzilla’ is scheduled to hit theaters on May 16, 2014 in 3D.
