‘Thor: The Dark World’, the highly anticipated sequel to the 2011 Marvel super hero hit, is finally upon us. In anticipation, Marvel has released what will likely be the last preview clip from the movie. Whereas the previous clips have focused on the characters, this one highlights pure fisticuffs!
In it, we witness Thor (Chris Hemsworth) slugging it out with villain Malekith the Accursed (Christopher Eccleston), lord of the Dark Elves, as they zip between London and a desolate Asgardian plain. We also get a brief cameo of Jane Foster (Natalie Portman).
Not knowing the context of this battle, it nonetheless looks pretty cool. Interesting to see the emphasis on the fact that Thor cannot fly without his hammer. I’m honestly not familiar with Malekith from the comics, but I assume the dimensional portals are his doing.
It’s also amusing to see the fall out from ‘The Avengers’ with the one student effusing “Are you kidding? That’s Thor! He’s swingin’ his hammer and everything!” The heroes are now on everyone’s mind as the concept of super beings is settling into a reality for the people of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Hey look! I wrote that whole thing without mentioning Tom Hiddleston as Loki! Oh… dangit!
‘Thor: The Dark World’ starring Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman, Tom Hiddleston, Idris Elba, Christopher Eccleston, and Anthony Hopkins hits theaters on November 8, 2013.
