While it rose to the top of the box office in the UK and received rave reviews, Pete Travis’ remake ‘Dredd’ bombed at the box office. However, you wouldn’t think so based on how well it was received by its fans. Once it was released on DVD and Blu-Ray, the movie starring Karl Urban, Olivia Thirlby, and Lena Headey started to gain some traction and achieved cult status. Then, the audience demanded more and started a petition to get the sequel made, which was endorsed by Urban and the publishers of the ‘2000 A.D.’ comic that the film is based on. But it seems that some fans just couldn’t wait for the studio to get their act together in order to get their fix.

As we hold on to a small sliver of hope that a follow-up to the 3D 2012 film could come to fruition eventually, some dedicated fans took matters into their own hands and produced an unofficial and unaffiliated sequel called ‘Cursed Edge’. Directed by Oliver Hollingdale, the six-part web series follows stories from the published case-files 2000AD. Part one titled ‘Prog 1’ was released earlier this week and you can watch it in the video below:

Despite having low funds and resources, there’s certainly high ambitions attached to this project. If you want to keep up to date and stay informed about the release of the next episode, be sure to like the ‘Cursed Edge’ Facebook page.

What do you think about this ‘Dredd’ fan film? Do you think that with the emergence of fan films as good as this one will help the effort in getting a sequel (or even the rest of the planned trilogy) made? Let us know what you think in the comment section.
