If you really loved the 2012 release of Dredd and want to see a sequel, I highly suggest you take a second to read this! Right now it’s up to the fans to get one made. Read on to see how you can help!

When ‘Dredd’ was released, it did well in the UK , but its global sales were roughly $32 million. With a budget of $50 million, the possibility of a sequel was thought to be forever stalled. However, the movie didn’t actually get it’s proper pacing until it’s DVD and Blu-Ray releases came out. It sold over 650,000 copies after the release and quite a few more since that time. That’s not including VOD purchases either.

When that happened, there was another surge of hope for a sequel though it’s been quite some time since we’ve heard anything about it. However at Comic-Con, Karl Urban was asked about ‘Dredd’ while promoting his upcoming Fox series ‘Almost Human’ and had this to say:

“The more people that campaign for it, the more people that email, Twitter, write-in to Lionsgate saying ‘we want to see more of this,’ then the more likelihood we will get to see it; we’re certainly doing everything we can to make sure it happens.”

If Lionsgate can be talked into it Karl is absolutely in for making another ‘Dredd’ movie.

For those who may have missed it, here’s the synopsis for the film:

The future America is an irradiated waste land. On its East Coast, running from Boston to Washington DC, lies Mega City One–a vast, violent metropolis where criminals rule the chaotic streets. The only force of order lies with the urban cops called “Judges” who possess the combined powers of judge, jury and instant executioner. Known and feared throughout the city, Dredd (Karl Urban) is the ultimate Judge, challenged with ridding the city of its latest scourge–a dangerous drug epidemic that has users of “Slo-Mo” experiencing reality at a fraction of its normal speed.

So if you want a sequel as badly as the rest of us, do make sure you hit up the official Dread sequel petition page and add your name! It’ll only take a few seconds and who knows, yours might be the name that gives us another installment into the lawless world of Dredd.
