About two years ago while the Wachowskis were working on ‘Cloud Atlas’, we learned that they would be making a return to their sci-fi roots by taking on ‘Jupiter Ascending’ as their next project. As time went on, we learned things about the film little by little. So far, we know that Mila Kunis and Channing Tatum star in this story about a genetically engineered soldier/wolf that falls in love with a Russian immigrant that possesses the genetic signature that makes her next in line to be the Queen of the Universe. While that may seem like a lot, there are definitely still a lot of questions about this movie. And now, thanks to an interview with one of the filmmakers, we might just have some answers.
In a recent interview with the Associated Press, Lana Wachowski sheds a little light on her upcoming project with her brother Andy that is currently in post-production by explaining a few things we can expect. And just like every other Wachowski film, they’re going all out on this one:
“It’s a science-fiction space opera. It has a lot of things from a lot of genres that we love. It’s got a lot of original action, it’s got a lot of romance. We seem not to be very good at making small things. We keep saying ‘Let’s go make a small movie.’ But then they always end up being enormously complex. We want to somehow always find something that is different or that no one has tried.”
By the sounds of the synopsis, ‘Jupiter Ascending’ definitely sounds like something that no one has tried before already. With the film currently in post, hopefully we can see some footage sooner rather than later so that maybe we can finally make sense of all the weird things that we’ve been hearing and seeing from the film.
‘Jupiter Ascending’ starring Mila Kunis, Channing Tatum, Sean Bean, Eddie Redmayne, Doona Bae, Tuppence Middleton, and James D’Arcy hits theaters on July 25, 2014.
