In a recent interview Joseph Gordon-Levitt (‘The Dark Knight Rises’, ‘Sin City: A Dame to Kill For’) has laid to rest the recent rumor that he was going to be the next Ant-Man. It would appear that fans really want to see Gordon-Levitt work with Marvel as he’s been rumored to be up for Dr. Strange in his feature film and was said to be in the running for Star-Lord in ‘Guardians of the Galaxy‘. All of these rumors keep appearing to fall short. Even though he’s already been in a DC film, he’s got the look, age, and acting chops to fit pretty easily into the Marvel Universe so I can understand why his name would always seem to pop up.

So with the rumor mill flying, what exactly did Gordon-Levitt have to say on the subject of him being up for another role with Marvel?

“There are always rumors. I talk a lot about my future projects, so if you haven’t heard me talk about it, it means it’s nothing but a rumor. People like to write about rumors.”

He finished his rumor smashing round up by saying he hasn’t gone on any screen tests or auditions for the role. So Joseph isn’t up in the running for Ant-Man, at least not yet. This could be interesting because the rumor that placed him on the short list for this leading role also stated that Paul Rudd (‘This Is The End‘, ‘This is 40’) was up for the part. Does this completely remove the initial rumor that Rudd was also in the running as well? Was Rudd the favored choice with Gordon-Levitt being who Marvel was going to run to if he wasn’t interested? Was this entire rumor false and they have someone else completely in mind for the role? Sadly only time will tell as Marvel’s most delayed movie still doesn’t have a lead announced.

Are you hoping Rudd is still in the running as Ant-Man? Sad you won’t see Gordon-Levitt in the role? Who would your perfect casting pick be?
