Ever since its initial mainstream release in 2009, the found-footage film ‘Paranormal Activity’ has set the horror world ablaze. It has captured audiences nationwide and even though it has mixed reviews in the minds of horror genre fanatics you can’t argue its box office successes. People are addicted to seeing ‘Paranormal Activity’ on Halloween in the same way that the ‘Saw’ franchise had been before this franchise came along.
With the last 3 years each having a ‘Paranormal Activity’ sequel being released, one would have expected to see #5 come out this Halloween. Well fans of the franchise will be saddened to know that ‘Paranormal Activity 5’ has been delayed until Halloween of 2014. There is, however, a consolation prize!
You won’t have to wait for next Halloween for another entree into the ‘Paranormal Activity’ universe!
Yes the official fifth installment will be out on Halloween of 2014 (technically on October 24th) but come January 3rd 2014 ‘Paranormal Activity: The Marked Ones’ will be released. The Marked Ones is a Latino-orientated spin-off.
It was scribed by Christopher Landon who has been writing the ‘Paranormal Activity’ series since the initial outing. Also, long time producers Jason Blum and Oren Peli will be on board for this one as well.
We don’t know all of the details quite yet but what we do know is that it is going to feature a Latino cast and it’s main plot will revolve around a Catholic themed investigation into the supernatural.
January seems to be becoming the month for horror with the success of ‘The Devil Inside’ and ‘Mama‘. This coming year has ‘Devil’s Due’, ‘Jessabelle’, and ‘I, Frankenstein‘ also coming out in January.
So are you excited about 2 ‘Paranormal Activity’ movies coming out next year? Annoyed there isn’t one this year? Or are you tired of the series and are happy to have a year off even though no other horror movies will be released that week to fill the void?
