Chinese singer/songwriter Leehom Wang has landed the lead role in Magic Storm Entertainment’s ‘Annihilator, based on the work of comics legend Stan Lee.
The script is being written by Dan Gilroy (‘Real Steel‘) with Barry Josephson (“Bones”) producing.
Magic Storm’s CEO Eric Mika said, regarding the casting, “He not only adds value to the character, but also appeals to a global audience and he has great passion for this particular role and film.” Wang has previously appeared in the films ‘Lust’, ‘Caution’ and ‘Love In Disguise’ and will also be featured in an untitled upcoming Michael Mann thriller alongside fellow Chinese actress Wei Tang and Chris Hemsworth.
This is the official synopsis of the movie:
Annihilator tells the story of a young Chinese expatriate, Ming, who must choose between remaining in prison or enlist in a secret US super soldier program. The program uses targeted genetic enhancements from various animal species. Ming chooses to undergo this nearly fatal procedure and through his extreme resolve, gained as a result of his family’s tradition of practicing Qijong and martial arts, he survives. Now, armed with remarkable abilities, he must confront a former rival with his own set of enhanced faculties. Our reluctant hero is forced not only to face his personal demons, but also to defeat the villain who will destroy everything that he knows and loves.
Magic Storm is a joint creation of POW! Entertainment, Ricco Capital Holdings and Fidelis Entertainment for the purpose of developing and financing a slate of new superheroes designed to appeal to primarily Asian markets but with the ability to cross over to other global audiences. With talent like Lee, Gilroy and Josephson, and now with the addition of Wang, the company is confident that ‘Annihilator’ has the ability to launch a new superhero franchise.
‘Annihilator’ is due in theaters in 2014, though no official time table has been released.
