While there may be some debate over the nonuse of Asians in the film Akira, it doesn’t look like that will be a problem for Stan Lee’s new superhero ‘The Annihilator.’

‘The Annihilator’ is a new superhero created by Lee who is a “young Chinese man given a second chance as an international superhero who returns home to mete out justice.”  Magic Storm acquired a treatment from Lee’s POW! Entertainment company and is moving forward into bringing this character to the big screen. In an effort to do this, they have hired writer Dan Gilroy (‘Reel Steel’) to pen the screenplay that will introduce audiences to this new superhero.

“Words can’t express how excited I am about this project,” Lee said. “It’s based on the most incredibly original and unique superhero I’ve created in a long time.”

Magic Storm is a joint creation of POW! Entertainment, Ricco Capital Holdings and Fidelis Entertainment for the purpose of developing and financing a slate of superheroes designed to appeal to primarily Asian markets but with the ability to cross over to other global audiences.  “We could not be more pleased than to have Dan Gilroy come aboard to write this exciting script for our film,” says Eric Mika, CEO of Magic Storm, “Dan’s knowledge and creative mind will undoubtedly create a strong base for a new franchise to the super hero genre world-wide.”

Gilroy has also expressed his excitement on working on this project. “Stan’s created a ground-breaking superhero for our globalized world. The story spans cultures and continents in thrilling, character-driven style. Stan is straight-up at the top of his game and it’s a joy to have a hand in bringing this to the screen.”

Not much more is known about this project as it is in development, but once we find out more (like what this superhero will look like), we’ll let you know! So, are you as excited as I am with this new superhero?
