South Korean director Bong Joon-ho, who is best known for horror film ‘The Host’, is preparing for the debut of his first English language film ‘Snowpiercer’ next week in his home country. While it hasn’t been given a US release date, the film based on the French graphic novel ‘Le Transperceneige’ features some of America’s top stars like Chris Evans and Octavia Spencer. Despite not being released here, we’re still seeing all the promotional material for the film, thanks to the wonders of the world wide web, and this latest promotion is a little haunting.

Presented as a prequel to the film, this animated video tells the story of how the people came to live on the perpetual-motion powered train to avoid the effects of the new Ice Age brought about by an experiment to stop global warming. This almost motion comic/animation gets pretty gory and heart-breaking, but to see the whole thing, check out the video below:

Previously, we saw a part of this animation when a whole wave of featurettes was released to promote the movie, but seeing the entire thing now is a little unsettling. What do you think of this prequel? Does it make you wish that it were getting a wide release next week instead of just coming out in South Korea? Share your thoughts about ‘Snowpiercer’ in the comment section.

While no US release date has been announced yet, ‘Snowpiercer’ starring Chris Evans, John Hurt, Tilda Swinton, Jamie Bell, Alison Pill, Ed Harris, Ewen Bremner, Octavia Spencer, Kang-ho Song, and Ko Asung opens in South Korea on August 1, 2013.
