Octavia Spencer is becoming a hot commodity in Hollywood! Right off her SAG Awards win for Best Supporting Actress for ‘The Help,’ THR has now announced that she will be joining the cast for the much anticipated high profile sci-fi indie film ‘Snow Piercer.’

‘Snow Piercer’ will mark director’s Bong Joon-ho’s English language debut and he’s pulling out all the stops. Along with Spencer, the movie also stars Chris Evans (‘Captain America: The First Avenger’, ‘The Avengers’), Tilda Swinton (‘The Chronicles of Narnia’ films), Jamie Bell (‘Jumper’, ‘The Adventures of Tintin’), John Hurt (‘Immortals’, ‘Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Parts I and II’) and Korean star Kang-ho Song (‘The Host’).

The movie is an adaptation from the French graphic novel ‘Le Transperceneige’and the screenplay was written by Bong with a recent draft from Kelly Masterson. Set in the future where the world is ruined by a failed attempt to stop global warming resulting in an Ice Age, all living creatures have died except those who inhabit the ‘Snow Piercer,’ a train that uses a scared perpetual motion engine to travel around the globe. An uneasy class system has developed on the train which prompts a revolution to occur. Spencer will be playing a mother who teams up with the revolutionaries “in order to save her son.”

Filming won’t begin until the end of April, (a couple months after the Oscars which Spencer is nominated in the Best Supporting Actress category) and by then we should know if the addition of Spencer also brings aboard an Oscar winning actress.
