A good showing at San Diego Comic-Con can often set the stage for a film’s success in the months to come, and news announced recently that a ‘Divergent‘ panel would be on the schedule at the coveted Hall H this year was certainly great news for fans of the series.

As ‘Green Lantern’ fans would awkwardly remind you, having the nerd culture on your side at the Convention is certainly not a given. Poor reception of the ‘Lantern’ clips aired during the mid-July event was definitely a harbinger for low box-office turnout, but, of course, it wasn’t just the bad press that sunk that film. Some pilots just take a wrong turn and their cockiness can’t always turn fan reception around.

Speaking of Ferris, only a scant few pictures of the upcoming ‘Divergent’ flick have been leaked, including this famous Dauntless trial scene at Chicago’s abandoned Navy Pier, and anticipation has been building for an actual glimpse of a teaser, which could be a possibility during the panel. Sitting on the stage will be the book’s author, Veronica Roth, director Neil Burger, and cast members Shailene Woodley (Tris), Theo James (Four), Ansel Elgort (Caleb), Mekhi Phifer (Max), Ben Lloyd-Hughes (Will), Christian Madsen (Al), and a few more supporting characters.

In the book, set in a dystopian Chicago, teenagers are divided up into five factions where they will live out the rest of their lives: Abnegation, Erudite, Amity, Candor, and Dauntless. The story centers around Beatrice Prior (Shailene Woodley) who is discovered in secret to be Divergent — someone with traits which of two or more factions. Keeping this potentially treasonous fact a secret, she decides to join Dauntless, the brave, and soon learns that the government behind the factions isn’t as peaceful as the population in the five factions are led to believe.

Roth’s second book, ‘Insurgent‘  has already been given the green light to move forward and is currently being adapted for the big screen. Her third book in the trilogy, ‘Allegiant,’ is set to hit bookstores in October of this year. Hopefully, Comic-Con will be just the beginning of positive hype to lead ‘Divergent’ to success.

‘Divergent’ is slated to be released in theaters on March 21, 2014.
