Rick Riordan’s teen hero Percy Jackson is headed back to the big screen on August 7, 2013.  Thor Freudenthal (Diary of a Wimpy Kid) slides into the director’s seat while Logan Lerman reprises the role of the title hero in this sequel to 2010’s Percy Jackson & The Olympians: The Lightning Thief.

Of course, the Percy Jackson series is a popular line of young adult novels, focusing on the half-divine children of the ancient Greek gods, with Percy being the offspring of sea king Poseidon.  This chapter involves Percy and his friends’ quest to locate the legendary Golden Fleece in order to save their hidden sanctuary Camp Half-Blood.  They must also save Percy’s best friend, Grover the satyr, after he is kidnapped by the cyclops Polyphemus.  Opposing them is Luke (played by Jake Abel), the son of Hermes, who seeks to use the Golden Fleece to free the Titan Kronos.

This installment introduces Percy’s half-brother, the cyclops Tyson, played by Douglas Smith and also features return appearances by Alexandria Daddario as Annabeth Chase, the daughter of Athena and Brandon T.  Jackson as Grover.  Rounding out the cast are several familiar faces from the world of  science fiction/fantasy including Nathan Fillion (Firefly/Serenity, Castle) as Hermes, Sean Bean (Lord of the Rings, Game of Thrones) as Zeus, Stanley Tucci (The Hunger Games) as Dionysus and Anthony Head (Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Merlin) as Chiron.  (Head and Bean are reprising roles from the previous movie.)
