A new featurette for Guillermo del Toro’s ‘Pacific Rim’ has been released by Apple today and gives a more in depth look at the robots designed to help humanity save the planet.

This is the third featurette for the film. The first centered on the concept of Drift Theory and how the pilots used this technique in order to get both “brains” of the robot to work together, while the second showed the physicality it took just to pilot these massive metal beings. Now we get a more in depth look at each of the Jaegars as a whole while del Toro and the cast explain what makes each of the 5 robots so distinct from one another.  It’s a great video for movie goers as it allows them to get acquainted with the robots before the movie is released.

So far, the featurettes have been very entertaining with the snippets of new footage interwoven within the topic. Hopefully soon we’ll see one that gives the backstory of the Kaiju.

Have a look at the featurette below and let us know what you think of the Jaegers so far.

Synopsis:

When legions of monstrous creatures, known as Kaiju, started rising from the sea, a war began that would take millions of lives and consume humanity’s resources for years on end. To combat the giant Kaiju, a special type of weapon was devised: massive robots, called Jaegers, which are controlled simultaneously by two pilots whose minds are locked in a neural bridge. But even the Jaegers are proving nearly defenseless in the face of the relentless Kaiju. On the verge of defeat, the forces defending mankind have no choice but to turn to two unlikely heroes–a washed up former pilot (Charlie Hunnam) and an untested trainee (Rinko Kikuchi)–who are teamed to drive a legendary but seemingly obsolete Jaeger from the past. Together, they stand as mankind’s last hope against the mounting apocalypse.

‘Pacific Rim’ opens in theaters on July 12, 2013.
