Immediately after credits rolled on ‘The Avengers’ last year, fans have been speculating on what would happen and who would be appearing in the sequel. After his appearance in the post-credits scene, Thanos was a safe bet, but there definitely had to be more new heroes popping up here and there. Director Joss Whedon even said himself that at least one new character that we haven’t seen before will appear in his follow-up to the record-breaking superhero team up flick.

Recently, the fan favorite filmmaker revealed that Magneto’s offspring, Quicksilver and the Scarlet Witch, would be making an appearance in ‘The Avengers 2’, but due to some legal mumbo jumbo, they are not able to be reference that they are former X-Men, who their father is, or the fact that they’re even mutants. Now, in an interview with IGN at the ABC Upfronts, where the announcement of ‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’ getting a series order was made, Whedon confirmed once again that the brother/sister duo are currently in the movie and had this to say about the trouble that they’ll be causing:

“You know, they had a rough beginning. They’re interesting to me because they sort of represent the part of the world that wouldn’t necessarily agree with the Avengers. So they’re not there to make things easier. I’m not putting any characters in the movie that will make things easier.”

The devious duo weren’t the only ones that Whedon mentioned when talking about who would be coming in for ‘The Avengers 2’. The end of ‘Iron Man 3’ left many fans wondering if Tony Stark would even come back to team up with the likes of Captain America, Thor, and Hulk again. However, fans of the Armored Avenger need not worry because he appears to be a lock for the sequel:

“Well, I feel like in ‘Iron Man 3’, even though he said, ‘I’ve changed’ — he blew up his remote suits, but I don’t think anybody thinks he doesn’t have one anymore. The question is, if the Avengers are called, does he show up? And the answer is, ‘Yes!’”

Though things aren’t 100% confirmed for Robert Downey Jr. to reprise his role as everyone’s favorite genius/billionaire/playboy/philanthropist, at least we know for sure that Iron Man will be heard from again.

As for Quicksilver and the Scarlet Witch, I’m very curious to know exactly how Joss Whedon plans on getting around the mutant issue. That’s such a big part of their core characters, so I can’t wait to see how he gets around it.

What do you think about these three characters being a part of ‘The Avengers 2’? How do you think Joss Whedon will introduce the Maximoffs without their mutant heritage? Are you excited to see Tony Stark rejoin his team in the crown jewel of Marvel’s Phase Two? Let’s hear your thoughts in the comments below.
