‘Oblivion’ is set to be released in just a couple weeks and Universal has decided to go a different route when it comes to promoting this film. Instead of a barrage of clips from the film that most studios seem to release prior to an opening, Universal has been releasing behind the scenes featurettes and we have the latest 2 for you to see.

The first featurette focuses on the time of the cast and crew as they filmed in Iceland. The area represents Earth’s future terrain and it is easy to see why director Joseph Kosinski chose the location to film. This area also looks like the same area that Ridley Scott used in ‘Prometheus’.

The second featurette titled ‘Behind the Frame’ features Kosinski and Cruise as they talk about what to expect when you see the film in the IMAX format. Words like “haunting beauty” and “beautiful desolation” indicate that while the film is heavy on action, the world that Kosinski created will be what will impress more on IMAX screens. Both director and actor insist that ‘Oblivion‘ was made for IMAX theaters but it will be up to the movie goers to decide if the extra money is worth the spend.

Both featurettes contain new footage and are rather short so they are a great quick watch. Whether featurettes are better sellers for the film than clips remains to be seen, but it is refreshing knowing that you won’t know a quarter of the film before getting into your seat at the theaters.
