Just when we thought that we had a pretty good candidate for Drax the Destroyer, Khal Drogo deemed the offering from Marvel unworthy of his time. Last week, we revealed that Jason Momoa was the top choice for the resident muscle on Star-Lord’s team in ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’, but it looks as if the Phase Two film is still without someone to fill the mighty warrior’s shoes.

According to IGN, El Mayimbe of Latino Review tweeted that Marvel is screen-testing actors again for the role of Drax, the human-souled alien warrior whose mission is to destroy Thanos. The first report of the casting indicated that Isaiah Mustafa, Dave Bautista, and Brian Patrick Wade were all in the running for the role, but Momoa came out of nowhere as the frontrunner. Now, negotiations have seemed to fall apart with the ‘Game of Thrones’ alum, as indicated by this tweet:

Marvel has been known to be hard negotiators who throw out low salary offers, but like the tweet says, Momoa could use the boost of this high-profile Marvel movie. Though not many people know who the Guardians of the Galaxy are, just the sheer fact that it’s a piece of the puzzle that leads to ‘The Avengers 2’ is enough for people to see it. The actor has had some success on television, but his track record on the big screen is less than stellar at this point due to films like ‘Conan the Barbarian’ and ‘Bullet to the Head’. He could have really used the boost that comes with appearing in a Marvel movie these days.

Oh well! One man’s loss is another man’s gain. Hopefully we get word soon as to who else Marvel is looking at to fill the role of Drax the Destroyer, as well as candidates for the rest of the team.

On a scale of 1 too 10 with casting Nic Cage as Ghost Rider on the bottom end, how bad of a decision is Jason Momoa making here? Do you think that he should have taken the role? Share your thoughts in the comments below!

‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ directed by James Gunn and starring Chris Pratt is scheduled to hit theaters on August 1st, 2014.
