Well, the Kingpin is calling, if only there was a way for Spider-Man to answer. During a recent post on Twitter (you can check it out for yourself below), Vincent D’Onofrio, who plays major Marvel villain The Kingpin on Netflix’s ‘Daredevil,’ has once again confirmed that he would want to take on Peter Parker aka Spider-Man one day in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, leaving fans sad and a little frustrated that despite the willingness of the actors in these roles to make crossovers like this happen, at the moment it is just not feasible. Last year a similar conversation took place when D’Onofrio was asked whether he would ever want to switch over and join the MCU proper so he could face heroes like Spider-Man, who is one of his arch-enemies in the comics and finally came home to the MCU in ‘Captain America: Civil War.’ Again, while D’Onofrio loved the idea, the powers that be at Marvel had to explain to him why it could not work at the moment, which he then explained to Digital Spy:

“I would love to switch over to the movies, but I think it’s pretty much been said it’s not going to happen. Or at least not for a very, very long time…I think [Marvel Studios boss] Kevin Feige explained that, and that’s what makes the most sense, he said the film universe is too jam-packed. It’s hard enough already, and if they keep bringing big characters in that they have to service in the writing, it’s not gonna work. They’re trying to figure out already how to individualise more and at the same time keep The Avengers going.”

Still, it would be pretty amazing to see Tom Holland’s Spider-Man take on a character like Vincent D’Onofrio’s Kingpin, just based on how different their characters are. Here’s this brilliant but incredibly immature teenager with a smart mouth, brand new to being a hero, who clearly doesn’t know exactly what he’s doing yet, having to go against this cold-calculating mobster who has been in the crime game for years and plans every one of his moves like a turn in a game of chess, but also has the physicality to take on Spider-Man in combat should it come down to that. I would gladly pay to see that in a movie. Ah well, one can only hope, and dream. Check out the latest Tweet from D’Onofrio we mentioned above about how he would love to take on Spidey in the MCU, and then share your thoughts on The Kingpin and other Netflix characters maybe someday joining the MCU proper in the comments below.
