skywalker-hand

When ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens‘ was in production there was a slew of rumors coming out online and one popular one looks to have originally been correct from the film. In a recent interview, voice actor and Jedi extraordinaire Mark Hamill confirmed that a popular rumor about how the movie opened was actually true at one point. With how many rumors that were floating around, this one seemed to be quite feasible and we almost had a chance to see it on unfold screen.

The rumor involved the opening cut scene and both Luke Skywalker’s hand and a lightsaber.

Here is what Hamill had to say on the matter:

“In the original opening shot of 7, the first thing that came into frame was a hand with a light saber, a severed hand that enters the atmosphere, and the hand burns away and goes sticking into the surface of Jakku…and this alien hand comes in, don’t know if it was Maz, but it was an alien hand who takes the light saber away, and then the movie proceeds as you see it.”

While we’re still not quite sure how Maz ended up with Skywalker’s lightsaber or what happened to the hand that went along with it, this is a scene that could still make its way to the big screen in a future installment. How Kanata ended up with Luke’s weapon is still a mystery and it almost seems like it falling from the sky and into Maz’s possession will be explained sooner than later.

Would you have preferred that this part of the story was included in ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ or do you prefer the mystery that we’ve been given so far? Share your thoughts below!
