For a long, long time, Robert Rodriguez had been talking about a sequel to his 2005 film with Frank Miller, ‘Sin City’. He started to talk about it so often with no actual progress that many fans never thought that they’d actually ever see the film go into production. Well, the director proved those fans wrong last April when ‘Sin City: A Dame to Kill For’ was officially announced. Among the first to return was Jessica Alba, who plays Nancy Callahan, the stripper with the heart of gold. In a recent interview with Collider, the actress revealed that she and her co-stars were in the same boat as the fans at one point because they, too, didn’t think the film would actually happen.
While promoting her new film ‘Escape From Planet Earth’, Alba talks about how frustrated she was becoming while waiting for the sequel to actually materialize:
“I think like you every six months to a year it was like ‘We’re going to do it, when’s the next one coming? Oh yeah, we’re going to do it. We’re going to do it. We’re going to do it.’ And then at a certain point it was just like OK, I just didn’t believe it. It was like ‘We’re going to start in the summer, we’re going to start in the fall’ but then when we actually got the start date and I was there on the set it was like a dream.”
She continues by talking about Nancy’s story in the sequel. The character isn’t included in the original ‘A Dame To Kill For’ graphic novel, so the actress talks a bit about how her story came to be from a creative standpoint:
“Mine is an original story so there wasn’t a lot to base it off of, but Frank [Miller] has been drawing. So it’s just crazy. It was neat to see their process, Robert and Frank’s, and their collaboration and what they inspire from each other and get out of each other and what they’re creating. It’s really like the 2.0 version of Sin City and it’s pretty amazing.”
Alba also reveals that she’s already shot some scenes with Mickey Rourke, Bruce Willis, Rosario Dawson, and Jamie Chung. Production on ‘Sin City: A Dame To Kill For’ is currently ongoing and the key role of Ava Lord was just filled recently by Eva Green, so expect to see more tidbits coming out in the news about this film very soon.
