The way Marc Webb has been tweeting, it’s almost as if you don’t need sites like /Film, Collider, or Comic Book Movie to get your latest news on ‘The Amazing Spider-Man 2’. (Of course, I didn’t mention us because you could ALWAYS use more ScienceFiction.com.) The director has been tweeting various things from set since production started in New York earlier this month including some Oscorp paraphernalia and cabinet of some sort that people say is connected to Venom. Now, in his latest message to the Twitterverse, Webb provides a video that’s got people talking.

First off, here’s the Tweet that he sent out yesterday as the latest glimpse into Spidey’s next adventure:

That link sends you to Telly, where Webb posted an 8-second video featuring flickers of a mask. Well, part of a mask, specifically the eye. One could assume that the eye belongs to Peter Parker’s Spider-Man mask, but if you compare it to the one from the last movie, it’s a bit smaller. Could it possibly belong to someone else?

The eye appears over a black background and Venom’s suit is traditionally black. First, a tweet from a week ago potentially teased the villain’s origin, and now this video might be continuing to hint at a possible appearance. As I mentioned before when the locker pic hit the web, it’s very possible that Marc Webb and his team of marketing specialists and writers could have prepared this elaborate viral marketing campaign via Twitter to slowly work up to the reveal of Venom, or the internet is just doing what it normally does and scrutinizes every little detail of something.

For a little while, I thought it was an over-analyzing thing, but this video definitely has to have more behind it. Even if it’s that Webb is taking a page out of the Superior Spider-Man‘s book and switching up eye pieces in his mask, it’s gotta be something. I guess we’ll find out for sure when the film hits theaters (or more likely when things are spoiled somewhere down the line).

What do you think is the meaning behind Marc Webb’s latest tweet? Do you think the eye belongs to Spider-Man or another masked individual? Share your thoughts and theories in the comments below!
