iron fist

This year I managed to sneak into Ballroom 20 at San Diego Comic-Con just in time to for one of the few big Marvel Presentations at the convention, which was their preview of ‘Iron Fist’ Season 2. And boy, this panel did not disappoint.

Aside from the big news about Alice Eve playing Typhoid Mary in Season 2, and the news that made me even happier was that Simone Missick’s Misty Knight will play a major role in the season. The panel also included A LOT of clips from the upcoming season, and it looks like Marvel and Netflix may have righted the ship at last. First and foremost they brought in Clayton Barber, the choreographer from ‘Black Panther’ to work on the season, and there is clearly a major emphasis on great choreography and actors doing their own stunts and fights after all of the fan complaints during Season 1. And the clips demonstrated just that with some amazing shots of Danny Rand fighting some thugs on the street as well as a very cool fight between him and Davos in K’un Lun in which they both appear to be wearing yellow masks that look EXACTLY like the kind of mask Iron Fist wears in the comics, with Marvel Head of TV Jeph Loeb hinting that the mask will have a big role this season. We also got to see a lot more of Colleen Wing fighting in the clips, which is always welcome as she is a bad-ass and arguably the best fighter on the show. We even got to see some of Misty fighting now that she is part of the cast, which is also very welcome as I cannot express enough how much I love her character.

The showrunner/ executive producer Raven Metzer was also there and he explained that there was also a desire to show more of K’un Lun this season, especially more of the interior and with that, delve more into the history of Davos and Danny Rand, especially since they are heavily hinting that Davos will continue his transformation into the Steel Serpent this season. They also want to reinforce that Danny is taking on the role of protector of New York more and more in the wake of Daredevil’s “death,” though he is focusing on a new part of New York since Luke Cage is covering Harlem and Jessica is looking after Hell’s Kitchen.

They very graciously let us see about 7 clips from the upcoming season which left me very excited for ‘Iron Fist’ Season 2, something I was not sure I would be saying after the “meh” results of Season 1. All in all, it was a pretty amazing panel (which you can watch below). Here’s hoping the actual season manages to live up to that hype!
