Although often overlooked, the soundtrack of a movie is just as an important element in how good a film can be as the script. The music can heighten the excitement of a chase, the sadness of a loss or even help make a scene seem funnier. In some cases, they even define the film. Think about it, how many movies can be identified just by the music alone?

That’s why it’s exciting to report that the entire soundtrack for ‘The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey’ is now available to listen to online and for free! The score is from composer Howard Shore, who many may know as the three time Oscar winner who served as the composer for ‘The Lord of the Rings’ trilogy soundtracks.

There are some very specific elements reminiscent from “LOTR’ and the soundtrack is as melodious and exhilarating as you would expect. Of course, it’s not the same as listening to the music while watching the movie but it is still very entertaining.

You can hear the entire soundtrack by clicking the widget below courtesy of Empire. Unfortunately,  you won’t be able to skip from track to track due to copyright reasons but you get full soundtrack for free before it goes on sale on December  11th.

So what do you think of the soundtrack? Has it made you more excited about seeing the film?

Peter Jackson’s ‘The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey’ will be released in theaters on December 14th.
