There’s some exciting news for Ti West fans! Looks like he has cast the lead for his new thriller ‘The Side Effect’ and it’s none other than Liv Tyler (‘The Incredible Hulk’, ‘Lord of the Rings’ trilogy).

Written by West, ‘The Side Effect’ is about Catherine Rigby (played by Tyler) who “spends several months alone in space as an experimental subject for a global pharmaceutical company, and finds herself inexplicably pregnant. Paranoia and hysteria reign as the truth behind conception grows more elusive and she remains stranded in space.”

Although ‘The Side Effect’ is not West’s usual horror fare, he does say that it is still “somewhat a horror film” in that it is much more of a psychological scare. As for the casting of Tyler he says, “It was essential that I find an actress who could portray a wide range of emotion and always earn the audience’s sympathy no matter what the situation. As soon as I sat down with Liv, it was obvious she was the one.” Tyler has also commented on how excited she is to take on the role and has called West “a super-talented exciting young filmmaker.”

West will direct the film which is being produced by Ted Hope and Peter Phok of Double Hope Films. Hope and Phok have previously worked with West on ‘The House of the Devil’ and ‘The Innkeepers’ (which will be released in theaters on February 3, the same day as Daniel Radcliffe’s horror film ‘The Woman in Black’).

No release date has been mentioned and now that the lead has been cast, hopefully the project will soon go into production.
