Back in November, we got our first peek at the latest young adult novel series to be receiving the big screen Hollywood treatment when the first trailer for ‘The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones’ was released. Directed by Harald Zwart, the film follows Lily Collins of ‘Mirror, Mirror’ as Clary Fray, a New York City teen who possesses the powers of Shadowhunters, a secret class of half-angel warriors that protects our world from demons. After a man named Valentine kidnaps her mother, she teams up with Shadowhunters to find a powerful tool known as the Mortal Cup and save her mother from peril.

Things have been relatively quiet on this adaptation of Cassandra Clare’s novel, but now, we have a new image featuring Jemima West, who plays Isabelle Lightwood, a beautiful, fashion conscious Shadowhunter who has a fondness for sharp weapons, runes, and all other accoutrements of demon hunting. Along with her real brother, Alec, and adopted brother, Jace, the trio aid Clary in her mission and enlighten her about the ways of the Shadowhunters. You can check out the photo below, followed by the official synopsis of the film:

Set in contemporary New York City, a seemingly ordinary teenager, Clary Fray discovers she is the descendant of a line of Shadowhunters, a secret cadre of young half-angel warriors locked in an ancient battle to protect our world from demons. After the disappearance of her mother, Clary must join forces with a group of Shadowhunters, who introduce her to a dangerous alternate New York called Downworld, filled with demons, warlocks, vampires, werewolves and other deadly creatures. Based on the worldwide best-selling book series.

Based on the character descriptions that we featured a few months back, West is a good fit appearance-wise for the caring and loyal raven-haired beauty. With a good amount of time left before the summer release, we’re likely to get plenty of promotional material from the studio who’s hoping that ‘The Mortal Instruments’ is as successful as the other young adult franchises that came before it like ‘Twilight’, ‘The Hunger Games‘, or ‘Harry Potter’.

How do you think ‘The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones’ will stack up against other popular young adult films? Based on the trailer, do you think that fans of the book series will be happy with the final product? Share your thoughts in the comments below!
